A Sugar Heir’s 100-Year-Old Hawaii House
Pākalā Estate has belonged to one family for more than a hundred years. Sinclair Robinson, who ran Gay & Robinson for 52 years, built the house with his wife, Ethel, in 1912: a single-story plantation house under deep eaves, set in the trees above the beach on Kauaʻi’s west side.
The Journal tells its story through their grandson, Philip Keat, and the house he describes is much as his grandparents left it.
